New Delhi. Mr E K Bharat Bhushan, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Civil Aviation Ministry, has taken over as Director General of Civil Aviation.
He succeeds Mr Nasim Ahmad Zaidi, who has been promoted as Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Mr Bhushan, a 1979 batch IAS officer, was Joint Secretary and Financial Adviser in this Ministry. He had also served as an interim Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Air India.
Both Mr Zaidi and Mr Bhushan have initiated efforts to check the demands of several airlines in India to hike domestic air fares to an all time high. There are allegations that these airlines are trying to create a cartel against national laws.
DGCA does not have powers to control fares but there are provisions for the government to intervene to protect public interest.
