Dubai. Emirates has announced a record USD 9.2 billion worth of engine orders from Rolls-Royce for its growing Airbus A380 fleet..
The new order for 50 A380 aircraft engines was announced in London April 17 by airline Chairman Tim Clark, who praised Rolls-Royce as “a key partner” for the airline, pointing out that there was “continual improvements in the economic and operational performance of the Trent 900″ that power the super jumbos.
The order for the Airbus aircraft itself was announced at the Dubai Air Show in 2013. Delivery of the new A380s will begin from 2016. Emirates is the biggest operator of A380s, ferrying people across the world using Dubai as a hub, taking advantage of this beautiful cosmopolitan city’s middle-of-the-world location.
Notably, Emirates began its operations in 1985 with Airbus A310 aircraft, and the Dubai Government also has a reported share of 3.6 per cent in the European aircraft manufacturer.
